International Students – Information and Procedures
🎓 Guidelines for International Students Wishing to Enroll in Courses at PPGAdm – UFSC
The Graduate Program in Administration (PPGAdm) at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) welcomes international students through two main pathways: as “Exchange Students” or via “Isolated Course Enrollment”. Below are the detailed procedures and requirements.
📌 1. Enrollment Options
A. Exchange Student (“Aluno Convênio”)
This modality is intended for graduate students officially affiliated with a foreign university who wish to temporarily study or conduct research at UFSC.
Eligibility:
- ✅ Students enrolled in graduate programs (Master’s or Ph.D.) at foreign institutions.
- ✅ Participants of cooperation agreements between UFSC and foreign universities.
- ✅ Students involved in sandwich programs (e.g., sandwich Ph.D.).
Requirements:
- ✅ Official application form.
- ✅ Learning/research plan approved by a UFSC faculty advisor.
- ✅ Letter of intent and recommendation from the home institution.
- ✅ Proof of enrollment at the home institution.
- ✅ Copy of valid passport and visa (VITEM IV or Mercosul).
- ✅ Proof of health insurance valid in Brazil with repatriation and funeral coverage.
- ✅ National ID or Brazilian foreigner ID (if available).
Visa: Exchange students must have a student visa (e.g., VITEM IV or Mercosul) issued by a Brazilian consulate abroad. Tourist or other visas are not valid for academic purposes.
Duration: Temporary enrollment, usually valid for one or two semesters depending on the academic plan.
B. Isolated Course Enrollment (“Disciplina Isolada”)
This option is for international students who are not formally enrolled in a UFSC graduate program but wish to take individual courses, subject to availability and academic approval.
Eligibility:
- ✅ Open to foreign residents with legal status in Brazil.
- ✅ Must meet the academic prerequisites of the desired course(s).
- ✅ Requires approval from the course professor and program coordination.
Required Documentation:
- ✅ Application form for “Isolated Course.”
- ✅ Curriculum Vitae.
- ✅ Academic transcripts or diplomas (with Portuguese translation, if needed).
- ✅ Copy of passport and visa or proof of residency in Brazil.
- ✅ Justification letter.
Note: Enrollment is limited to two courses per semester and does not constitute formal admission to the graduate program.
📝 2. Application Procedure
- ✅ Contact the program in advance via email: ppgadm@contato.ufsc.br
- ✅ Submit documents at least 30 days before the semester begins.
- ✅ Wait for evaluation and confirmation from the program and PROPG.
- ✅ Receive the official acceptance letter (if applicable) for visa and travel arrangements.
Note: All documents not in Portuguese must be submitted with certified translation.
📚 3. Academic Information
- ✅ UFSC follows a semester system: the first semester begins in March, the second in August.
- ✅ The language of instruction is Portuguese.
- ✅ Enrolled students have access to:

- 🍽️ University cafeterias with subsidized meals
