Strategizing: Social Practices & Processes
Based on the understanding that strategy is carried out at a micro level, but also carries all the meanings, models, tools, values, etc., which are shared at a macro level (Golsorkhi, Seidl, Rouleau, & Vaara, 2015), the phenomenon of strategy can be understood from: (i) different onto-epistemological approaches, (ii) different theories, conceptions, sociological and organizational concepts, and (iii) innovative methodological procedures and non-traditional approaches. Thus, our research interest is to investigate themes, conceptions and approaches related to: (i) the practices developed by different practitioners and professionals of strategy, for example, middle managers as articulators of strategic action; (ii) the role of routines in the articulation of strategizing processes and practices; (iii) the sociomaterial dimension and the participation of non-human elements in strategizing; (iv) the language elements involved (discourses, narratives, rhetoric, vocabularies); (v) initiatives and practices in the paradox between openness and closure of strategic practice (open strategizing); (vi) the processuality (strong view) and temporality of the phenomenon; (vii) the role of history and memory in strategy making; (viii) strategizing in hybrid, extreme, pluralistic institutional contexts and/or digital spaces; (ix) other theoretical approaches and interactions to illuminate strategy making. We are dedicated to thinking about research problems that can (re)discuss the dominant logics and assumptions of the strategy area from unique and idiosyncratic angles of the Brazilian reality. The S:SP&P Group has been presenting research results through dissertations, theses and articles published in national and international conferences and journals.
Coordinators: Rosalia Aldraci Barbosa Lavarda (UFSC) and Natália Rese (UFPR).
